First Line for Syria

First Line for Syria is a small non-profit  group of neighbours, all volunteers, who mostly  live  on the First Line of Mono in Ontario .  In the fall of  2015 they decided to officially launch a campaign to sponsor a Syrian refugee family. The family arrived in February of 2016  and they have now integrated into Canadian society while we celebrate their many successes:   They are now on the threshold of becoming full fledged Canadian citizens . We are currently waiting for our next family to arrive, who are unfortunately still lingering in a Jordanian refugee camp .

The Pastoral Charge partners with First Line as their official stakeholder, without which they would not be able to do this important work. Together they have helped with the integration process of many refugees , both in our local community and beyond, and taken part in several interfaith conferences, continuing to build lasting relationships with the newcomers in our area and further afield. The work mainly consists of supporting refugees in a variety of ways; by  hosting social gatherings, advocating for our newcomers  and assisting them with many practicalities, such as  getting them rides to  ESL programs.

First Line for Syria reports that the last five years have been a most rewarding experience and through their work have they have gained many friends in the refugee-community across Ontario. They are eagerly looking forward to their next family's arrival in Canada.  Hopefully this will occur in 2021.

You can support First Line for Syria financially in a variety of ways through our Shelburne Primrose Pastoral Charge. See Link Below.
