KAIROS

KAIROS consists of 10 churches and religious organizations working together in faithful action for ecological justice and human rights. Through KAIROS, ordinary Canadians of faith and conscience can bring about extraordinary change around current justice issues.

KAIROS brings people together, working across denominations. It advocates from Africa, Latin-America, Asia-Pacific and the Middle East with Canadians from coast to coast to coast. It gathers together young activists and elders, indigenous and non-indigenous, advocates of human rights and advocates of ecological justice, and it brings the churches together with a collective voice.

Formed in 2001 it is a charitable joint venture administered by the United Church of Canada. If you would like to read up on what they are doing, here is their newsletter.

KAIROS groups meet all across Canada, and in Shelburne they meet one morning a month downstairs in Trinity United. The group will hopefully be meeting up again come September when it is fully safe to gather. The group has offered The Blanket Exercise to the community. The Blanket Exercise is an interactive educational experience that teaches about the history of the indigenous people in Canada. The program was created in response to the 1996 report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, and is used as a teaching tool across Canada. Learn about the experience that took place in our community.
