LGBTQ+ with Melissa

The goal for this group is to help build support for LGBTQ youth (ages 13-23), to decrease the isolation that some youth may face. It can be scary for a young person to realize that they are gay / queer and feel that they do not have the support of their family and/or close friends.

LGBTQ Youth Community of Shelburne creates a space where youth can feel safe and supported. Melissa created this space for youth to come and talk about issues they may not be able to talk about elsewhere. She believes that everyone has the right to feel good about who they are, and would love to help create this feeling for others in the community.

It is Melissa’s hope that as youth come out to this group, they will meet other LGBTQ youth in the area and develop a network of friends / supportive people with whom they can feel safe. This can drastically improve the mental health, self-esteem, and self-image of folks who identify under the LGBTQ spectrum, or folks that are questioning their sexual orientation.

As someone who identifies as LGBTQ, Melissa knows first-hand how hard it can be. Melissa is here to help youth feel accepted and comfortable with their identity, whatever that identity might be.
